26 - the Tourist Trophy

Awarded annually to the winner of the Club Tourist Trophy.

Trophy history:

In 1956, the Club’s “Touring Competition” was a new project that had, as its main object, stimulated interest among all members in cycle touring in the widest sense. At the same time, it provides interesting competition for the non-racing member, a selection of runs for the runs leaders, and a stack of miles for the racing men! If support was forthcoming, the competition would become an annual event, and as our route-finding and other interests developed (and our fitness), so could the competition be extended to include map-reading contests (day & night), route-finding by compass, reliability trials, bird-watching, pub-crawling, rock’n roll runs - the possibilities were unlimited!

The President (Arthur Goodhew Ed.) awarded a prize for the best original article submitted by a club member. At least 500 words were required. “Come along, you keen tourists and tell us about your travels.”
