Pete Avis short bar
47 - the Pete Avis senior short distance bar trophy
Awarded annually to the rider with the highest average speed at 10, 25 and 50 miles in Club, Associated and Open events.
Trophy history:
In 2011, we received a generous legacy of £150 left to the club by Pete Avis, who died in March and was our only Centenarian. He stated in his Will that he wished it to be used to buy a Trophy in his memory, and it was agreed that we would like it to be for what will be the next most important competition after the Club BAR, namely the new Short Distance BAR.
So Pete’s money was to go towards a suitable important cup in his memory as one of the outstanding older members of this Club. Sarah Sutton contacted the family regarding the matter and eventually showed us the handsome silver-plated Pete Avis Trophy, as selected by his family, that will be allocated to the new Senior Short Distance BAR over 10, 25 and 50 miles that were instituted at the 2010 AGM, some month before Pete Died.
