Richard led 16 riders from East Malling heading to Gray’s Café at Brenchley. We started through the Research Station and up Sweets Lane to Wateringbury lights, then along the A26 to Old Road and climbed up Pizien Well Road before descending to Seven Mile Lane. Riding through East Peckham and Golden Green we headed to Tudeley and Capel with more “undulations” to Pembury by which time some of us thought Richard had changed his mind about the café stop. But no, we changed course and looped back to Matfield and then found food after 20 miles at Grays. Not the fastest of service but all in a good cause. Thinking the return would now be a shorter leg we set off refreshed and climbed yet again, this time to Castle Hill, and then to Collier Street, Laddingford, Beltring and East Peckham, but a final loop to Hadlow, Matthews Lane and Butchers Lane to Kings Hill and the finish. Not a shorter return leg after all. Total of 43 miles at 13.1 mph average.
