Due to Covid-19 restrictions the ride was split into two separate groups of four riders each. Two new cyclists, John and Neil, were welcomed to the ride on what was predicted to be a very hot day. Good progress was made to the cafe at Headcorn Aerodrome cycling down many quiet and pleasant country lanes. The groups found some shade to enjoy at the coffee stop and just before leaving were entertained by two Spitfires taking off, all part of the plan of course!
All was going well until about ten miles from the finish when the Group leader (John) succumbed to the heat whilst climbing the hill just after Grafty Green. After ten minutes rest John once again led the group but just before reaching Mote Park decided to stop to purchase well earned drinks and lollies, from a local mini-market.
Distance 31.5 miles, average speed 12.4 mph and elevation 1193ft.
